Sometime between 7:30 and 7:45 p. m. on the night of December 2, 1960, Mackai (hereinafter respondent) parked his automobile on Thurston street, near Sixty-fourth street, in the city of Milwaukee. He removed the key from the ignition when he left the car, but did not lock the doors. An extra ignition key was hidden in a band-aid box in the glove compartment. The glove compartment was closed but not locked.
